Where are we going with this thing called digital as it enters its third decade of life? The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has released its latest Internet Advertising Revenue Report based on 2017 results, and it's safe to say that digital is truly exploding. Here are five stats from the report, which looked across channels at video, mobile, audio, search and more.
Online advertising reached $88 billion last year, a 21 percent increase from 2016 and a new high, according to the latest IAB .
Total ad spend in digital audio was $1.6 billion in 2017, up from $1.1 billion in 2016.
Mobile spend grew to $49.9 billion in 2017, more than half the total of ad spend, and a 36 percent year-over-year uptick.
Meanwhile, digital video was up 33 percent to $11.9 billion.
And social media advertising increased 36 percent to $22.2 billion.
